A historic day for caribou protection in the north

On June 9, 2009, the federal government announced the expanded boundaries for Nahanni National Park Reserve, a World Heritage Site in the Northwest Territories.  The national park reserve is now over 30,000 sq km – the size of Vancouver Island -- and protects over 90% of the South Nahanni watershed.  Not only that, but this massive expansion now protects TWO woodland caribou herds that live and rely on the watershed to survive.  This is a historic announcement for wilderness conservation and for the protection of woodland caribou!
